Current administration limits refugee admissions to record low
Current administration announced at last moments before the deadline for the 2021 fiscal year the limit of refugee admission to USA. The new limit has been set to only 15,000. This will be the lowest level of refugees admitted to the USA since 1980. For the 2020 fiscal year only 9,000 refugees were admitted although there was a ceiling of 18,000 set. In comparison Obama’s last year in presidency had a cap of 110,000, and Presidential nominee Joe Biden has pledged a target of 125,000 if he is elected president.
