Don’t buy legal marijuana if you don’t have US citizenship

Illinois just legalized buying marijuana January 1, 2020. However, if you are not a US citizen and plan on applying to be one, don’t buy marijuana. Even though it is legal at the state level, it is still illegal on the federal level, so immigration can deny your application for citizenship for using it. Even using it for medical can reasons can cause your application to be denied. USCIS says immigrants involved in marijuana related activities can be found to lack good moral character, which is required for citizenship. So if you work in a job related to marijuana your application can also be denied.
