There’s a new hurdle for U.S. asylum seekers. This one involved work permits.
On September 9, 2019 the US Department of Homeland Security proposed a new rule removing the 30 day processing provision for asylum related work permits. Having a work permit makes is easier for these immigrants to earn a living legally while waiting for a decision on their asylum application. This rule is another brick in the invisible wall that the current administration is creating to make immigration more difficult.
Our office have helped asylum seekers get work permits in past and is currently working out ways to navigate this change. If you or someone you know have questions or concerns about this policy change, contact our law office.
