US Bars Iranian Investors from Certain Types of Visas

The fallout from recent political developments between US and Iran has resulted in new visa restrictions.

The Trump administration published a new rule in January 23, 2020 that Iranians and their families are no longer eligible to apply for or extend the E-1 and E-2 visas for investors and business people. The change is the result of a withdrawl of the USA from an 1955 treaty with Iran that sough to promote commercial and economics ties between the countries. Iranians in the USA on the affected visas will be required to leave the country when their visas expire, although the new regulation does not bar them from applying for or extending other types of visas for which they are eligible.
