USCIS is asking for a 1.2 billion dollar bailout from Congress as it claims it will run out of money the end of summer due to a decline in immigration. Unlike most federal agencies, USCIS receives almost no taxpayer dollars, because it functions on the fees associated with filing for immigration benefits.
Current administration policies have severely restricted immigration and redirected funds for ICE operations in unplanned ways, that has caused this budget issue for the organization.
Immigration advocates are canvassing for the bill to support USCIS without which all operational activities related to immigration could cease to exist. Advocacy groups believes that the administration is using these tactics to advance their anti immigrant agenda.
