Visa restrictions for expecting mothers

Current administration has policy update to restrict visas for pregnant women.

The new policy gives more discretional powers to visa officers in determining inadmissibility for pregnant women to stop birth tourism. This rule stems from the political discourse where some people claim that expecting mother are using the relax visa norm to create "anchor babies". The new rule pushes consular officers to reject women they believe are entering the USA to gain citizenship for their children by giving birth. Consular officers will not be required o ask every woman if she is pregnant, but they will be expected to apply additional scrutiny if a women is pregnant.
