On Friday February 20, 2020 the Department of State announced that they are ready to start implementing their new rule relating to the new public charge of inadmissibly starting Monday February 24, 2020. Consular processing application with interviews on or after February 24, 2020 may be asked to complete the new public charge form DS-5540 and will be evaluated under the new rule. Consulate officials have been instructed to not deny a case based on public charge without first giving applicants and opportunity to fill out the Ds-5540 and provide supporting documents if they have not already done so.
